Q&A - Competition
How did you get started?
My mom and I started snowboarding when I was 8, but we didn't live anywhere close to a mountain, so we only went a couple times a year. Then in 2006 we moved really close to my home mountain, so now I can go almost every day when there is snow -- SIC!
List your competitive highlights:
2007/2008 was my first real season competing. Making it to USASA Nationals in 3 events was pretty exciting. Also, winning Maryland Governor's Cup was pretty intense. Then I stepped it up in 2008/2009, I finished the season ranked #7 Overall in the Nation for Youth Men and qualified for Nationals in 4 events. I also successfully defended my Maryland Governor's Cup title, and finished the season competing in the Tom Wallisch Memorial Day Rail Jam where I finished first for Junior Men (16 and under). I spent my summer wakeboarding, skating, ww kayaking and rafting and training for my first Triathalon. I won my first skate comp, finished 2nd in the Bust Largenss Wakeboard Comp, am the part of the current US National Whitewater Rafting Junior Champion team, ran a couple 5K races, and competed in the SavageMan Half-Iron Triathalon, where my team and I were the only junior team. We beat most of the adults, finishing 4th overall.
What are you planning for next season?
I'd like to make it to Nationals for all 5 events, we'll see...
What has been your biggest accomplishment?
Either winning Governor's Cup or just being at Nationals, both were pretty sic.

Why do you like this sport?
Snowboarding makes me feel free. It's just me and the snow, and it's just awesome to get inside myself and ride.
What inspires you to compete?
I want to keep improving, keep pushing, to see how far I can go.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Right now I am thinking that I will major in Philosophy and Psychology in college, not exactly sure what I will do professionally with that, but I'm sure that it'll all come together with some hard work.
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
During the season, I try to be at the mountain at least 4 days a week, more if my mom'll let me. During the summer I wakeboard, skateboard and run. I also work on my family's farm, so that keeps me moving too.
How's Life Treating You?
Great, I just got off the water from wakeboarding, going to Woodward in a few weeks, things are looking great. Winter isn't too far away.
